The Will of Mankind Verses the Will of Modern Technology
First off let me apologize for the catchy title, I shall return to boring long lofty works immediately.
First off, let's explore the Will of modern man.
If you added all of our wills together in one big sea of willpower then what do you get?
Anarchy.
You get the will to order clashing against the will of rebellion. You get debauchery and horror and peace and love.
You get a world full of separate people going around in their separate universes and what happens upon that world is somewhat of an expression of that willpower.
Each person probably has some wills in common, the will for comfort and personal safety for example.
But that is not present here on Earth, even though we all will for it.
It is present for a lot of people though. So the willpower is having some effect on our daily actions as a species. But it doesn't happen for all because in that froth of global willpower there is the all very human trait of willing for power over others, for rape, for hate, we all know how horrific that froth of willpower is, it is why we lock our doors at night.
If you don't understand locking your door, just look up World War II and see what humans are really like.
It takes all sorts to make a world, unfortunately. It is why we are all here, and it is probably the main reason we are not happy.
The proof of that is that everyone is here in the year 2010, whatever your beliefs natural selection is obviously accurate, those that are born are those that helped the species to survive until 2010, they are the same traits from hundreds of thousands of years ago.
Anyway back to the catchy title.
It struck me the other day that in the future there will exist something greater than the will of mankind. There will be the power of technology!
All of our Wills will be able to be brought to life via our future technological mastery.
The 'Human Condition' as I have written about before, will be put to the test.
Whatever we want will become our reality, and all our willpower will be satiated.
The question is: what do we really want? What is it that drives us on to create this technology, the main question is, do we all will for destruction more than we will for global progression and happiness?
We want love, and we will be assigned our perfect match, we want MEANING and we can create an afterlife (in about 10000 years or more probably) we want exploration and we can surf the stars. We want freedom and isolation. We want safety. We all want a lot of things. And I just hope that our will is for the best, for we will have the power of WILL.
